Wolley and Wallis salesrooms sell Damaged Meissen teabowl estimate £2-300 for £800 pluus buyers premium
By Laurence Mitchell on 05/03/2007
the auctioneers Woolley and Wallis Lot No 184 A rare Meissen armorial tea bowl, painted in schwarzlot and richly gilded, with an elaborate armorial, the reverse with a garland of flowers suspended from a hoop, the base with a caduceus mark, c.1730. Damage and wear. 7.7cm. Across. The estimate of 2-300 was in my opinion very fair and I was interested in acquiring this piece for double the estimate. I am never put off by damage on any piece if its attributes are either fine quality or unique.
