There is Meissen at its best and there is Meissen at its worst and other pieces in between.
The former of those pieces were items normally under direct control of the painting or modeling managers and directors. Firstly if the modeller or artist was not particularly experienced or was working too hard his workmanship may suffer. His work may pass Meissen's quality control but it may not be the best example of workmanship during the period.
The truly great pieces that were produced during the 2nd half of the 19th century under the directorship of Leuteritz or Andressen. Two of the greatest and most gifted in the management were responsible for some of the finest examples in modeling and painting. Please refer to the examples under the heading of Quality Care for illustrations of the finest workmanship of Leuteritz.
